Duck Chowles...
Mention must be made of Edwin Chowles - better known as Duck Chowles, the rocker
on Barnyard stages countrywide. He was there from the very beginning; known for
his formidable Mick Jagger voice and antics and also for his angelic John Lennon
smile and authentic Beatles interpretations. I immediately realised the Barnyard
could not exist without Duck's musical genius in conceptualising shows, recognising
young talent and honing them for the Barnyard stage. (we're definitely considering
a huge, key-man insurance!)
Louis Möller.
Born and bred in Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape, Duck obtained a degree in agriculture
from the Pretoria University before moving to Port Elizabeth where he worked for
the government as a stock improvement technician in the dairy industry. "I always
used to tell the farmers - 'one day I'm going to sing' and they never believed me."
In his spare time he had been learning the trade of music production and in 1989
sold all he owned to open a recording studio in Strand Street. He recorded a lot
of township music including gospel and film sound tracks.
In 1993 Duck packed a suitcase and moved to Cape Town to start his performing career.
For five years he lived the Rock 'n Roll dream: played at night, slept by day. In
1998 he started his own production company, bought the Barnyard Theatre in Plettenberg
Bay and then joined the Barnyard Group in 2002. |
