ROUGH DIAMONDS & DIVAS
A Celebration of The Gravelly Voiced Superstars
A dramatic and exhilarating musical ride, exploring the gritty voiced, rough and raspy rockers and the dark & dangerous divas that rocked our world and blew our minds with their powerful performances. Rough Diamonds & Divas is a Barnyard Theatre Production that celebrates the distinctive gravelly-voiced superstars. From Joe Cocker to Neil Diamond, Tina Turner to Bonnie Tyler, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, Cher, Kenny Rogers, James Brown, Tom Jones and a few surprises… Who can forget the distinctive gravel voice of the legendary American singer- songwriter Neil Diamond (who graced South African shores this year) with his iconic hits America and Sweet Caroline. The uniquely talented Joe Cocker adds some grit to the mix with Unchain My Heart, You Are So Beautiful and With A Little Help From My Friends. We couldn’t do it without the vintage rough diamond, old Satchmo himself, Louis Armstrong, singing What a Wonderful World and dazzling with the grace and distinctive style that made him one of the world’s most beloved entertainers. Then there are the dynamic divas who take the stage with raw energy and powerful vocals, including Bonnie Tyler (Holding Out For a Hero, Total Eclipse of the Heart); Tina Turner (We Don’t Need Another Hero, I Can’t Stand The Rain); and Cher (Bang Bang). And, of course, the classic and timeless duets like Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes’ Up Where We Belong and Neil Diamond & Dolly Parton’s You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling Rough Diamonds and Divas is directed by Adrian Poulsen (who directed the hit shows Diamonds & Pearls, Super Troupers and Dancing Queen), and features an astounding 10 – piece cast that will take you on a magical ride with the diamonds that may be a little rough, but are undoubtedly impressive and bound for glory.
