The Princess and The Pea is based on the fairy tale “The Princess on the Pea” by Hans Christian Anderson
This intriguing story tells of a prince who is in search of suitable princess, as per Queen mother’s orders. But day after day he returns home disappointed as he is unable to find a desirable royal wife. Then along comes a very wealthy young woman who is the daughter of the Mafioso dressed in fine clothes and jewels and claims to be a princess. Her family plot to extort money from the royal family. Now the Queen thought that at last they found the right one for the prince to marry - she was beautiful. However, just to be sure of the truth, Queen Mother secretly devises a method of testing the veracity of her claim. And what a test that was… She would have to detect a pea under 100 mattresses – was she a princess or was she a commoner? Oh dear… the deceiver had succeed – she had a terrible night’s sleep having felt the pea through all those mattresses. So match for the Prince was found, but she has less than desirable character - she is snobbish, rude and quite simply a brat! The charming Prince didn’t want that for a wife!
In the meanwhile a secret and prohibited romance blossoms between the Prince and the chauffeur’s daughter…. It’s fun and games and the challenge of convincing dear Queen Mother that love and happiness is what counts in marriage and that the status of a human being is truly in having a fine character.
This exquisite pantomime will be packed with fun, humour and sensitivity. As always, On Cue Theatre’s unique style will have the audience enthralled.
