South African born rock star, Dilana, will take the country by storm as she embarks on a four concert Beautiful Pink Monster Tour, courtesy of New Cape City Productions, Barnyard Theatres and PinkDrive. Dilana will entertain her fans with tracks from her latest album ‘Beautiful Monster’ as well as epic classics such as Lithium, The Cat in the Cradle and Roxanne. Dilana says: ’I am so honoured and this is going to be a highlight of my year.’ The shows will be held at the following Barnyard Theatres: • Cresta - Friday 1 May – 8pm • Pretoria - Saturday 2 May – 8pm For this tour, Dilana has aligned herself with PinkDrive, South Africa’s best-loved Breast Cancer Community Carer, and the indispensable, tangible breast cancer Non-Profit Company (NPC), powering South Africa’s mobile Women’s Health Mammography and Gynaecology Units. The PinkDrive , the tours' CSI beneficiary, has units across the country. PinkDrive’s underlying message is ‘Early Detection Saves Lives’. All PinkDrive units travel to semi-urban and urban areas around South Africa with the aim of enabling all disadvantaged communities access to women’s health services. These services include free education on women’s health, free mammograms, free pap smears, free clinical examinations and how to do breast self-examination. The charismatic performer with a powerful, husky, smoky voice was born in Johannesburg as Dilana Smith. Her inspiration to start singing came from visceral singers such as Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. Dilana left school at the age of sixteen to follow her own dreams and soon found herself with a promising music career in Holland, becoming one of the country’s most coveted live acts. Her 2000 album Wonderfool scored five singles, four videos and a string of touring and festival gigs throughout the region. But Dilana made name for herself when she entered the reality show “Rock Star Supernova.” As one publication noted, “The minute she stepped on the Mayan Theatre stage in Los Angeles in Episode One and performed Nirvana’s ‘Lithium,’ she instantly became the show’s frontrunner.” Her powerful vocals and commanding stage presence amassed legions of new fans from around the world. That acclaim has inspired Dilana to pursue her musical passion with characteristic tenacity. Dilana has performed with rock legends Tommy Lee and Mick Mars (Mötley Crue), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Panic Channel) and Gilby Clark (Guns N’ Roses). In 2007, she opened for Aerosmith and Beth Hart, and launched two solo tours spanning North America and Western Europe that consistently earned stellar reviews. In 2009 she ventured into film acting and the talented singer/songwriter won the BEST ACTRESS award at the Action On Film International Film Festival as well as winning both the BEST ACTRESS award and the BEST MUSIC award at the American International Film Festival for the 9 songs she wrote and performed in the rock drama, Angel Camouflaged. Dilana has toured the world extensively and performed in Afghanistan for the troops in 2009/2010. While music remains the focus of her life, Dilana is also committed to helping others, hence her alliance with PinkDrive for this tour.
