2016 May Wendy Oldfield and Lionel Bastos (guitar and vocals) will be setting off to Jozi to perform beautiful venues, mostly around the Pretoria area, with a new show, that Wendy will be engaging -fresh new material -with her audience and If all goes well a 2017 release is on its way. The range of material for this show will be from songs 30 years famous i.e. Acid rain to a new tune “One of the girls “ that she wrote only a few weeks ago, some covers and showcasing a few of Lionel’s . This dynamic outfit will blow you away with their outrageous musicality, displayed through the waterfall of songs, arrangements and styles effortlessly pouring over and merging with the audience. On stage with Wendy is Producer, singer, composer, performer and guitarist Lionel Bastos. Wendy has been working alongside Lionel for 30 years and four years ago started up a duo show with Wendy on djembe and vocals and Lionel on guitar and vocals. The combination of their vocals, and sense of space and timing in their instrumentation, is quite sublime, and you understand what kind of talent you are witnessing. Through the yin and yang of what you are hearing, you get the sense of what “greater than the sum of its parts “(holism) really means. Invited to perform with Wendy on this leg of the tour is Marius Marais (keyboards). Wendy calls him “one of the usual suspects “because as with many collaborations, the musicians have at some stage worked with the guest artist. Wendy and Marius played in a band for many years in the early 90s (Acid rain was a hit at the time) and when the opportunity arises she gets him up on stage with her. Marius is an amazing versatile and hugely talented keyboard/piano player with a stunning voice and great musical overview. He immerses himself in Wendy’s show like he’s been on the road with her for years. This wonderful trio is only on for four shows. Do not miss this!
