KILLER QUEEN – FAMILY BUDGET SHOW
A Family Budget show of Killer Queen
Killer Queen is The Barnyard Theatre’s hot, new production which will run at the Gateway venue from 19 April to 29 May. A Family Budget show of Killer Queen will be staged on Saturday, 21 May, at 13h30. With this matinee performance, tickets at just R70 and a kid-friendly shortened version of the show, you can't find a better way to entertain the family on a budget, or an easier option for kids' parties. Killer Queen is about the showmanship, charisma, harmony and power of the music group Queen and the inimitable Freddie Mercury, that all come together in one mind-blowing concert. Queen is famous for their music style which combines hard rock, massed vocal harmonies and overdubbed guitar work, catchy pop melodies, surreal humour and flamboyant theatrical performances. Killer Queen is a tribute to this outrageously brilliant British rock group and its frontman, and features a ten-piece cast who capture all these elements and more! The show features the band’s earlier work with songs such as Seven Seas Of Rhye and Keep Yourself Alive; before moving on to the masterpiece album, A Night At The Opera. The cast perform a special tribute to this brilliant album with songs including Love Of My Life, The Prophet’s Song, Death On Two Legs and Bohemian Rhapsody; then tackling more anthemic rock songs from the seventies including Somebody To Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. The show also pays tribute to Freddie Mercury’s solo career that included hit songs such as The Great Pretender and Barcelona. Queen was well known for their variety of musical styles from funk, pop, hard rock and synth pop to progressive rock. Killer Queen covers all these styles of music with songs like The Show Must Go On, Another One Bites the Dust, Who Wants to Live Forever, Radio Ga Ga, A Kind of Magic, Under Pressure and many more. Tackling these huge hits are vocalists JP Moggee, Riyaan Cornelius, Clint Lotz, Lisa Goldin and Kea Brand; backed up by a band made up of guitarists Barry Thomson and Sheldon von Grimm, with Calli Thomson on keyboard, Jason Vex on bass guitar and Matthew Rennie on drums.
