Sax and Strings in the City is a production by Olasax, a charismatic soulful self-taught saxophonist who has graced the music industry for 15 years. He has performed in major local and international concerts such as the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival, the World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures (Senegal) and other festivals. He has also performed in high profile occasions like the inauguration of the South African president Jacob Zuma. Olasax has been with the Barnyard Theatre for 3 years and has performed in the following productions: The Buddy Holly Musical, Elvis Presley Musical, 50 Carat Gold, The Seven Wonders and currently USA vs UK musical production. He has also produced his own shows such as “Romantic night with Olasax”, “Up close with Olasax” and now introducing “Sax and Strings in the City”. Olasax’s album titled Expression was released on Friday 15th January 2016. He describes this album as a fusion of West African and South African jazz grooves. It is an expression of the smooth sounds that define this soulful Nigerian born saxophonist. “This album is an expression of my musical journey and all the life experiences that came with it. It is me expressing to the world my inner thoughts, my creativity and the talent that God gave to me.” Says Olasax Sax and Strings in the City by Olasax is a one night only extravaganza with a 6- piece live band that promises to get the audience singing and dancing to soulful music and rhythmic beats. Produced by Olasax, the show will include songs from his “Expression” album and covers of well respected artists, such as Kirk Whallum, Brenda Fassie, Janet Jackson, Dave Koz, Abdulah Ibrahim, to name a few. The line-up is a kaleidoscope of beautiful sounds, and caters to different audiences across ages and musical backgrounds. The audience will be treated to the sweet sounds of strings by violinistAdri Naude-Scholtz and the mesmerizing guitar tunes of Chris Kele.
