LE CLUB REUNION
Featuring Wonderboom
LE CLUB RETURNS TO BARNYARD THEATRE RIVONIA on April 7, 2018! It’s the alternative gig of the year. Joburg’s legendary Le Club will be re-opening, for one night only, thanks to ASP Live and red SQUARE Drinks SA! Sunninghill is the address where Goth and indie-rockers should be heading on Saturday, 7 April 2018, because that’s when Le Club, The Chelsea Underground, The Subway and Dirtbox's 80’s DJ’s take centre stage in celebration of the JHB 80’s Alternative era along with Wonderboom, one of SA’s finest live outfit’s, with a career spanning 22 years; fresh from the Silk Road Indie Music Festival in China, where they won the competition as best live act, against live act’s from 13 other countries. The band also recently released their critically acclaimed new album ‘’Rising Sun’’ and will be onstage belting out the hit’s as only Wonderboom do! There are few live music institutions that can claim a history as colourful and connected as Johannesburg’s great Le Club. Expect to hear goth, classic modern rock, punk and the finest Indie music, when all will be exhumed and resuscitated by the people who were an intrinsic part of the era. Your ringmaster’s for the night are the legendary Night Zoo anchor and ‘’ROCK ON“ podcast music ambassador - Barney Simon, and Kerry-Anne Allerston, host of The Hang Out on Mix 93.8 FM and Balcony TV, who will infuse some current alternative and modern rock musical currency early on. If the likes of The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, New Order, Lords of the New Church, Depeche Mode, Violent Femmes, DAF, Joy Division, NFOH, New Order, Simple Minds, Bauhaus, The Jam and The Smiths was the music you were rushing out to Street Records for in the day, expect to hear a solid selection of their respective hits, covered live on the night! During the 80’s and early 90’s Le Club, South Africa was rocking and partying up a storm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, thanks to incredible live music and even more memorable DJ sets from the likes of ASP Live Events owner and founding Le Club DJ, Adrian Skirrow and Richard Sinclair. Accompanying Adrian for the first time ever will be Gary Turner of Decadance, Chelsea Underground and Dirtbox fame, for a dive back in to the vaults and memory banks to play the music that defined the era. Born on the back of edgy music hubs like the Chelsea Underground, and Decadance, Le Club fast became the magnet that attracted old and new Indie music lovers from everywhere. Music lovers of all ages descended upon downtown Joburg to escape the grind, and gig with Goths and Mods of all shapes, sizes and persuasions. Freedom of expression and a shared passion for some of the greatest music ever made is what 7 April’s major gig is all about. A reason for alternative fans, old and new, to get their eight-up Docs and winkle pickers on. “It’s going to be a music filled time warp” event organiser and music industry stalwart Adrian Skirrow says. “Pure passion is what’s behind Le Club’s select reunion parties, this reunion party will also see the likes of Le Club’s original Thursday night’s DJ, Richard Sinclair and Kerry-anne get the floor bouncing, followed by SA’s best live band Wonderboom“. “Since featuring The Mission’s Wayne Hussey, the specially reformed No Friends of Harry and Ashton Nyte in the month of May 2015 Le Club festivities, we’ve taken the original show one step further and added more DJ’s from the era to deliver the classic alternative music which Le Club and indeed the alternative scene is (in) famous for! The night’s going to be a retrospective rollick from start to finish at 1am on Sunday morning” he adds. ‘red SQUARE Drinks will also be on hand with great specials and giveaways to help propel the good vibes and festivities“.
